We listened to a story called Not A Box by Antoinette Potis. Can check out the link here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nif94VQ4Xsc Afterwards we brainstormed ideas by walking around thinking silently in our heads of an idea when Mrs.Chilton said go. When Mrs.Chilton said stop the boys found a buddy to share their idea with. We did this two more times so the boys had several ideas for what the box could be! Afterwards the boys got started on drawing and writing what the box would be. They started with some pre-made pictures than created their own. The best part was there were so many different ideas such as rock ships, trees, a city, tow trucks, cars and a time machine! Math We talked about subtraction and how sometimes we don't have to regroup and other times we do if there is not enough to subtract from. We will begin the practice this using our tens and ones manipulatives to gain a better understanding of what it means to "borrow" a ten when we subtract. The boys have now gotten used to subtracting a single digit from a double digit. Our next step is to begin to subtract a double digit from a double digit. We will also continue to problem solve using both addition and subtraction during guided Math Centers. Science This afternoon we looked at the calendar to figure out how many days the Mantis had been in our classroom. We figure out it has already been 24 days! We did an observation in our visual journal by looking closely at the Mantis in clear plastic cups. We talked about how they are still in the Nymph stage of the life cycle. Some observations from the boys:
